Supporting & Representing Our Community Since 1984

At Carey Leisure Carney, we believe it’s important to give back to the community. While it is true that the legal profession is saturated with attorneys who only care about profits, we also prioritize serving Clearwater as best we can.

Drunk Driving Awareness

One of the main ways we get involved in the community is by raising awareness about negligent behavior, such as driving under the influence (DUI). In fact, protecting people from DUI accidents is the reason why our firm exists in the first place.

Having lost his wife in a drunk driving accident in 1983, our founding partner, Thomas W. Carey, has since been an active member with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The firm was founded and built with a strong focus on advocating against drunk driving and helping clients obtain compensation and punitive damages for such accidents, as well as recovering damages for any other accidents caused by negligence.

Letter to the Community from Attorney Tom Carey

On September 25, 1982, I married Joanie Jones, who I believe is my soulmate. We had the same hopes and dreams as many newlyweds. However, seven months later, my entire life was shattered as a result of the carelessness of a drunk driver. Joanie was killed on April 17, 1983. Since then, I have dedicated my life and career to fighting against drunk driving.

For many years, I was the state chairman and local president for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). I continue to participate in MADD events all over the state of Florida. Many people who let their friends or family drive drunk tend to think that it is none of their business; however, it is your business. I believe that we should all get involved and save lives. I want to raise public awareness by educating people about the dangers and possible consequences of drunk driving for those involved.

Drunk drivers can kill or fatally injure their victims and rob families of a future with their loved ones. Yet, every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is preventable. If you decide to consume alcohol, there are other options besides getting behind the wheel. There are local agencies that will pick you up and drive you home for FREE (drinkinganddriving.org).

We need to work together as a community to protect our loved ones and others. Below are just a few of the non-profit organizations that you can contact for information about how you can help us on the fight against drunk driving.

Ham Drive

Easter is a time for celebration. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy spending time with family and eating a good meal. If you live paycheck to paycheck and find it difficult to provide your loved ones with an Easter feast, let us help you! Every year, we give away 500 hams, on a first come, first served basis. You read that correctly: They’re free! There’s absolutely no catch. All you have to do is come to our main office. We announce the date and time on Easter week.

Turkey Drive

We are extremely lucky to call Tampa Bay our home. Every year, around Thanksgiving, we get to spend time with our families and appreciate all the goodness around us. Yet, we are also aware that there are many people who struggle to make ends meet. That’s why we’ve made it an annual tradition to celebrate a Turkey Drive. Each year, we give away 500 free turkeys to families in need. There’s no catch: Just show up to our main office, and get a turkey. We announce the date and time on Thanksgiving week.
