Matthew Carney is a civil trial attorney focused on advocating for the injured. His practice is rooted in understanding the tactics employed by insurance companies to avoid the fair handling of claims and defending at all costs. He joined Carey Leisure Carney from a preeminent insurance defense firm and was formerly a licensed insurance agent and commercial property and casualty underwriter.

Matthew is a firm believer in the value of educating clients on the important
decisions that need to be made in their case. The decision to enter a settlement
versus bringing a case to a jury trial can be life-altering. From a thorough review of the litigation process to taking the time to explain the questions a jury will ultimately decide, every client deserves to make a fully informed choice that is best for them.

Matthew graduated from Stetson University College of Law with honors, where he was a recipient of the Victor O. Wehle Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. While in law school, he served as a judicial intern for the Second District Court of Appeal
under Judge Craig C. Villanti and for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida under Magistrate Judge Thomas G. Wilson.

Outside of the office, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and their two boys. He is proud to serve on the Board of Directors of the non-profit Clearwater Community Sailing Center, an organization dedicated to providing safe, enriching, and affordable sailing opportunities to local residents and visitors.
